Ibiza and Formentera are two paradise islands located in the Mediterranean Sea, off the east coast of Spain. Although they are very close to each other, the only way to get to Formentera from Ibiza is by boat. If you're planning a trip to Ibiza and want to visit Formentera, an excellent option is to rent a boat and enjoy both the destination and the journey. We explain everything you need to know about how to get from Ibiza to Formentera in your own boat.

Why rent a boat?

There are several reasons why renting a boat is the best way to go from Ibiza to Formentera. First of all, it gives you the freedom to go at your own pace. You can spend as much time as you want in each place, design a route to suit you or improvise when you feel like it. In addition, you'll avoid the crowds of tourists often found on ferries and tourist boats.

Another advantage of renting a boat is that it allows you to explore the coast and beaches of Ibiza and Formentera from a different perspective. You can discover coves and places that can't be accessed by land. You can also snorkel in more remote locations.

What kind of boat can you rent?

The choice of boat will depend on the number of people travelling with you and your personal preferences. If you're travelling alone or as a couple and want to spend the day alone, a small motorboat may be enough. If you're travelling with a group of friends or family, or your stay lasts several days, you will probably need to rent a larger boat, with a cabin and bathroom.

There are also several options when it comes to the type of boat. If you prefer speed and excitement, a motorboat is the best option. If you want a more relaxing and peaceful experience, you can opt for a sailboat or catamaran.

How long does the journey take?

The duration of the boat crossing between Ibiza and Formentera depends on the type of boat and weather conditions. In general, the trip usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes. If you go by motorboat, the crossing will be shorter, while, if you opt for a sailboat, the travel time will be a little longer. Please note that during the high season, the trip may take longer due to boat traffic in the area. Therefore, it's advisable to plan ahead and book the boat in sufficient time to avoid delays.
