Sailing boat or motor boat? Which is best?

This is one of the most frequent questions asked by clients when it comes to choosing their vessel for a boat trip around Ibiza and Formentera. Although the answer will depend on individual taste, we’ll give you the lowdown on the main pros and cons of opting for a sailing boat or a motor boat.

Motor boat: speed and comfort first

At Coral Yachting, we’re motor boat experts and tend to recommend this option, being the most comfortable. A trip on a motor boat doesn’t involve any complex manoeuvres and tends to be more of a luxury option, with more personalised assistance from the crew. These boats have more space for kicking back, relaxing and enjoying the trip. This is also the best option if you’re tight on time, as you’ll get from A to B much quicker (Ibiza – Formentera in just 30 minutes), without having to lift a finger. Most motor boats come with docking at Marina Botafoch or Marina Ibiza included in the price and can be rented for a day trip or overnight. Another advantage is that it’s a shallower vessel, so you’ll be able to anchor closer to shore. The downside of choosing a motor boat is the fuel cost: the faster and more powerful, the greater the fuel consumption. Sailing boat: for when time is on your side

Those who go for a sailing boat are attracted by the pleasure of sailing and aren’t worried about how long it will take to reach their destination, as it will be significantly more than on a motor boat. Another key aspect of sailing is that it’s more technically demanding. On the other hand, weather plays a key role when sailing: you won’t get very far without wind, unless you use the motor. The natural movement of the sailing boat means sailors must be alert at all times. The main disadvantage of this option is that most sailing boats and catamarans are rented per week and don’t generally include mooring costs. So, if you’re after a relaxing holiday at sea, perhaps the best option is a motor boat. But, if you want to experience the Pityusics on a sailing boat, don’t miss out on our fleet of sailing boats.
